In response to Kim Quek's letter entitled 'The constitutional amendment to legalise phantom voters' (July 19), I would like to add the following points of concern for public debate:

1) That the existence of phantom voters in our electoral roll has serious and far-reaching consequences in that it would produce phantom YBs and having enough of them, would lead to formation of a phantom government; and

2) That the existence of illegal immigrants in the state of Sabah also has the same serious consequences in that the rights of Sabahans may have been violated by the federal government's failing to stem the influx of illegal immigrants into the state and subsequently allowing them to be registered as voters.

In view of the above, I urge the de facto law minister to seriously consider the potential implications arising from the Likas election judgment.
