I refer to Jeffrey's letter 'Don't scorn porn' (July 31). Perhaps pornography is not "an unmitigated vice, bad or harmful indulgence" to the audience (in the writer's judgment), but is it not harmful to porn actors? Are they not bound by the moral codes of society?

It is abhorrent to me that any so-called "civilised society" would place the burden of bearing the sexual fantasies of that society on an underclass of sexual content providers.

Why are they an underclass? If you were one who "cherished notions of duty to family and children and (our) cherished fiction of monogamous and exclusive love", would you marry a porn star? Would you accept it if your brother or husband or daughter or mother decided they wanted to become a porn star?

In our zeal to promote the 'goodness' of porn, let's not forget the other side of the coin.
