While I congratulate MCA delegates for their courage to ask for more positions in the government, I think they should ask for even more in order to truly reflect the great contribution of MCA in saving Barisan Nasional (BN) and Umno in the last general elections. Without MCA under the able leadership of Dr Ling Liong Sik, Umno under Dr Mahathir Mohamad would have just collapsed and died off.

So, I suggest that MCA should ask for at least two ministerial positions, i.e. in the defence and foreign ministries to reflect the multi-ethnic character of the nation in the international arena.

If Umno is unwilling to give up some posts for MCA, BN should at least cut down Gerakan and MIC's share in the government because these two small parties' contribution to BN is really negligible.

MCA should ask Dr Mahathir to also consider giving up his finance minister post to an MCA economist like Dr Fong Chan Onn who is a former economics professor in Universiti Malaya. Dr Fong certainly knows more economics and finance than Dr Mahathir.
