In response to WM Ho's letter ('Is Ong a reformasi secret agent?' Aug 6), I wish to rectify and point out some of his misleading statements.

Mr Ong Tee Keat does not have the power to sack the so-called 'talented and dedicated' MCA youth leaders Mr Yew Teong Look and Loh Seng Kok. It was the collective decision of 730 central delegates.

The motive to take over Nanyang Siang Pau and China Press by Dr Ling Liong Sik is unclear till today. Sometimes he says it is solely a normal business deal and sometimes he says it is a strategic deal (politically). They can't give you a satisfactory answer, even if you were to ask the 32 central committee members who supported him over the deal; they supported Ling blindly, with two sheets of white papers.

Financially, it is not worth taking over the two dailies. The earnings are far from enough to pay for the interest. Politically, MCA turned out to be the loser after the deal was sealed, as expressed by MCA secretary-general Dr Ting Chew Peh during the opening speech of the MCA Wanita AGM.

So, why then the purchase?

Maybe to control whatever view that goes against MCA, maybe to enslave the Chinese Malaysian via the press, maybe to brainwash them over time; there are too many doubts!

Chinese Malaysians fully supported MCA and Dr Ling in the late 1980s when it was raising funds to save the MCA building. The setting up of TAR college happened way before Dr Ling. It's too early to comment on the setting up of Utar (MIC is already running two private universities).

Also, please do not make education a political agenda as every citizen of Malaysia has the constitutional right to receive education that is provided by the government. MCA should fight for this as a universal value instead.

Dr Ling is not a bad person but the problem is that he has been MCA president for far too long. He was a good leader previously but now he has lost his direction.

Mr Ong Tee Keat is amongst the eight central committee members who had the courage to point out the wrongdoing of the president. He must be commended and not condemned.

Mr WM Ho must always remember that MCA must accept differing views and criticism with an open mind in order to remain vibrant and strong. Don't delude us into thinking that as members of MCA, we are not allowed to say anything against the leader. We must have a fair mind to understand what is wrong and what is right. Don't just follow the leader blindly like the 32 central committee members.

Comrades Yew Teong Look and Loh Seng Kok's reinstatements have to be approved by an EGM and not by the central committee.

Lastly, to sack Ong Tee Keat would be a repeat of history, i.e. how Mr Neo Yee Pan sacked Mr Tan Koon Swan.

Mr WM Ho please open your eyes and see that we are in the 21st century. Do some homework on the state of politics today.
