I refer to Dr SL Chong's 'Lodge report against hooligans' (Aug 6). Quite evidently, the similarity found in MCA and MIC was, is and will continue to be ineffective leadership.

In the case of MCA, the Nanyang Siang Pau affair was an indicator of troubles-a-brewing. Yet, the top party leadership found no time to resolve their mutual disagreements. Matters were left hanging. It was obvious both sides were drumming up additional adversarial support instead of resolving the issue.

The Youth AGM was the consequent 'relief valve' for proxies of the opposing factions. The subsequent MCA AGM was to show, "... well, you see, we are democratic and civil..." But Were they ?
