The political uncertainty in Malaysia is fast becoming a plague that is slowly transforming Malaysia from a strong, united and peaceful nation into a sad state of decadence. Malaysians are treading their own paths and losing their direction.

The future of Malaysia seems bleak and dubious as a result of selfish and hypocrite politicians playing the power game. It seems that we, the 22 million Malaysians, are the helpless victims of this hidden, hideous and corrupt greed for power.

This almost lustful desire for supremacy has taken its toll on several significant fundamental foundations of our beloved nation. Islam is one of them that is being gravely threatened and the culprits are no other than our own Muslim politicians.

As a Malaysian Muslim, I cannot ignore the fact that Islam, my faith and devotion, is now being whipped like a lion in a circus. Only to be sent to the centre of the arena to roar and amuse the spectators and later, forced to the cage and to be used again in another show.

Islam has been indiscriminately exploited to facilitate certain political agendas, equally by the opposition and government. A number of politicians have always claimed themselves as champions of Islam in this country. Speeches in their political rallies are often political accusations or mere claims of old achievements.

There are too few new and effective efforts being done to further strengthen the Muslim community in facing the endless salvo of threats, such as pornography, anti-culture and blasphemy, coming from every corner. The present scenario is very much alarming. Muslim youth and children know more about music than reciting the Quran and the number of Muslims ending up in Pusat Serenti reinforces the statement above.

Patrons of pubs, discos and gambling dens consist of Muslims. There is also a huge number of cases of premarital sex which is too shameful to be openly discussed in public.

Regardless of their political stand, Muslim politicians should always think about the well-being of Islam.

The power struggle between Muslim politicians has crippled the progress and development of this great religion. We have been moving like snails to 'prepare' ourselves to face these massive changes to come - global, financial, cultural and others - mostly thanks to our politicians who are more concerned about wanting to be in power rather than preparing the community for a greater challenge and success. No doubt, having power would make things easier, but why does it become our politicians' main agenda?

Why is it that too much effort and resources are being channelled towards political concerns when our religion and community are getting weaker by the day? Do we need to be wasting so much time and effort to be in the book of records? Do we need an Islamic state to be known as Muslims?

Therefore, stop your meaningless, harmful craving for supremacy and fear of losing power. Start to work harder to safeguard Islam and its believers.
