Irrespective of whether the Dewan Tunku Canselor fire was a sabotage or not, I think the following are the more important questions to the students of Universiti Malaya and the public that cares.

Did the security and maintenance personnel conduct regular checks on the electrical wiring of the old building? When was the last upgrade? Was there a properly working sprinkler system in the building? Doesn't Malaysia or City Hall have a law that says buildings occupied by the public must have a sprinkler system?

Sabotage, arson or just plain bad luck, whoever is in charge was not exercising good control.

I am a graduate of Universiti Malaya. Every inch of that university meant a lot to me as this was the place where I became an adult. The DTC means as much to me as the Universiti Malaya Library. That library is one of the oldest and biggest of a university in the country even before the expansion.

Is the electrical wiring of the library checked and upgraded and is the library insured? Does it have any sprinkler system? Yes or no? Some of the books are irreplaceable.
