Back up claim of 'inferior' local students

I take great offence at Waikit's comments in 'Merit-based intake - a zombie bill?' (Aug 17), particularly that local university graduates are inferior to those who study overseas with the exception of a brilliant few. Is the writer privy to information from the Ministry of Education or did he deduce this from the cases highlighted in the press?
Of the Chinese students in my course (class of 2000/01), there were three with 10 As and numerous others having nine or eight As in their SPM (if I'm not mistaken, there were less than 30 straight-As students in the 1996 SPM).
