It is really very interesting to see and hear what Premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad had to say about Suhakam. He is responsible for the setting up of the body and it is he who approved its membership.

The people chosen are very respectable personalities in our society who have contributed much to Malaysia, the people and the government. They have gone through the Kesas highway incident thoroughly and fairly. They queried both the police and civil witnesses before deliberating and publishing the report. They didn't condemn the police or the government. They only pointed out some weaknesses which could be rectified for the good of Malaysia.

We must laud the police force in general for the many good that it is doing but that doesn't mean that the police are perfect. In any society, whatever its ideology or creed, when a weakness arises, it should be pointed out without fear or favour for the good of its citizenry. That is what a respected body like Suhakam has done.

Mahathir should accept and analyse such reports for the good of Malaysia and not shoot words off his mouth without reading the report. He shouldn't feel that he is being insulted if there is any form of critique. He should learn to differentiate what's critique, criticism, opinion and evaluation of a situation. Further, he is not the only being who could make comments. Every human being has the right to his or her opinion and be responsible and accountable for what he or she says.

Keep up the good work, Suhakam.
