Don't blame police solely
I am shocked that Suhakam has blamed the police for certain human rights violations during the Nov 5 100,000 People's Gathering at the Kesas Highway last year. Are we to believe that the police in Malaysia would act in isolation?
Every time there is a possibility of a Keadilan party gathering, the police are out in full force. Even family day outings and sporting activities organised by Keadilan are met with water cannons and police in riot gear.
By putting the blame on the police force, Suhakam has shown that it is nothing but a public relations gimmick to make the government look good. The grievances of the people never stemmed from police action.
It is the maltreatment of Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim that Malaysians are unhappy with. For Suhakam to put the blame on the police force is like absolving Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad of police brutality, especially meted out to Keadilan members. Suhakam has definitely misconceived the situation.
