In reference to Anti-Jumud's letter, 'Waiting for a breath of fresh air' (Sept 10), I disagree that religion is a personal matter. If that were the case then one would have to live in the jungle by oneself.

In Islam, religion is not a personal matter. If one commits a wrongdoing it is the duty of another Muslim to advise him accordingly. The basic Islamic thoughts are contained in the Quran and I fail to understand what "transformation... like Christianity" in Islamic thought is needed.

Does the writer mean to say that while the Quran commands that women should cover their hair, a reform might see that rule being discarded as not necessary in keeping with modernity?
