Unkind people will always say unkind things about politicians, and considering the quality of politicians we have been having these last 28 years, such a attitude is not at all surprising.

Thus it is a welcome breeze of freshness to witness the recent stand taken by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Nazri Abdul Aziz regarding the revelation of he respective amounts received by the unfortunate judges.

Perhaps it is his relative youth, but Nazri seems to reflect the dignity, honesty, and transparency Malaysians have always been demanding of their leaders.

Congratulations, minister. I am particularly encouraged by your statement that certain information, excepting anything that relates to national security, must be revealed as the public has a right to be kept informed, especially since it is a matter of public funds.

After all, it is the nation's finances that the government utilises for its various objectives. Not being open will simply show that crooks, bullies, and thieves continue to roost beneath the eaves of parliament.

It does not really matter whether the judges retired, were sacked or simply rode off into the sunset.

Nor is it of concern whether prime ministers past or present gave any word on keeping things private and confidential.

The judges were paid from public coffers and that's it. We need to know who received what. Keep us the good work, Nazri, and may your credo henceforth be, ‘The public have a right to know’.

Oh, by the way, Datuk Seri Nazri, maybe you will also let this public with rights know the full details of all the toll concessionaire agreements.

We the public want to know - just like in the case of the judges - who received what. And while you are at it, maybe you can also let us know at what stage are the sedition investigations against Ahmad Ismail, Khir Toyo, and Utusan Malaysia.

I fully appreciate that, goodness, the police must be careful in their enquiries and cannot simply jump to conclusions.

Silly me. Anyway, I was just wondering, since the police were able to take action against Teresa Kok and the Sin Chew reporter almost overnight.
