Sept 11 will go down in history as one of humankind's blackest days, together with the day Hiroshima and Nagasaki got bombed, as well as the days George Bush Sr destroyed hundreds of lives in Iraq.

My heart goes out to all the innocent lives lost, and my prayers to all right-thinking Americans. Not only have people been killed, but the global economy set on a recessionary path.

But standing by George W Bush, the "leader of the free world", in his "fight against terrorism" is something I can never do. And that's because Democrat and Republican foreign policy has, for most of US history, been terrorist-oriented.

There are many examples of terrorist acts in the name of freedom perpetrated by US governments.

These include the slaughter of Native American communities, the invasion and reduction of Mexican territory, the bio-chemical terror acts against North Korea and Vietnam, the slaughter of Panamanian civilians and the consistent support for the continued existence of thieving Israel, a modern republic that is blatantly anti-Islam.

Almost all US presidents since Harry Truman, said dissident scholar Noam Chomsky, can be indicted as war criminals. Similar sentiments have been expressed by fellow dissident scholars like Howard Zinn and Michael Parenti, as well as activist Ralph Nader.

In fact, the Cold War which Truman inaugurated was a terrorist scheme to terrorise the developing world, that is those developing countries that chose to go on paths opposed to the capitalist system.

The US leaders terrorised Cuba, East Germany, Nicaragua, Grenada, Libya, and Vietnam, among others, the same way Arab terrorists terrorised the West and Israel, though these cruel acts were hardly reported.

The Democrats and Republicans created many Muslim terrorist groups with the assistance of the fascist regime of Saudi Arabia, to destroy all moves by developing world peoples to go socialist. These included the Mujahideen and Taliban.

The aim was to make sure the Muslim world was locked in a battle between liberals, highly corrupt, Westernised and despotic, and fascists dead against women and freedom.

It was to make sure no proper Islam based on freedom, justice, puritanism, democracy and socialism emerged.

The Soviet threat, largely an exaggeration, was the excuse for US leaders to intervene in almost all countries to prevent socialist-inclined governments from taking over.

Most of the time, the US leaders installed or propped up dictatorial capitalist regimes. This was the policy even during the times of presidents vocal in promoting human rights, like John F Kennedy and Jimmy Carter.

The terrorist policies of US leaders bred terrorism at home and abroad. There was always a danger that the superpower would one day be exposed to horrifying attacks.

Sadly, the day has come.

The only way to fight terrorism is for the US people to pressure their leaders to stop being capitalist imperialists.
