I was dumbfounded with "A 'freezing' puzzle" (Sept 26) by A Confucian Student. Obviously, he's unaware of what it is like to be an American, and how the US government operates.

The US government has several intelligence agencies working around the clock and around the world. The main reason that the government never took any actions against these so-called 'terrorist' organisations is because they haven't done anything that violates the law. These organisations are of course always under surveillance.

If you are a person living in the US, you can basically do whatever you want within the limitations of the law. Under US law, any living person is always innocent until proven guilty. The US government does not recklessly jail anyone whom they suspect is a criminal, as compared with our government's penchant for the Internal Security Act which allows for detention without trial.

It is a ridiculous idea that the US government would harbour terrorism on American soil, as suggested by the writer.
