Whatever political cases Dr M Bakri Musa ('Anwar who?' Sept 25) cites against former deputy premier Anwar Ibrahim, and whatever amount of empirical facts and figures he tries to convince us of his Mahathirism, two simple moral truths stand will knock him down immediately without needing any debate about details.

One, Anwar cannot reply to him because he is in jail: it is immoral to charge a person who cannot reply to us, just as it is immoral for the terrorists to plan intentional attack on unarmed civilians;

Two, if and even if all the political charges made by Bakri were true, that still does not justify Anwar being detained and jailed; this has to do with the political tolerance of the writer himself, and not that of Anwar.
