I am shocked by the revelation in The Economist that some local contracts were given to the family of Osama bin Laden in Saudi Arabia. Although the PM has clarified that Osama bin Laden's family has nothing more to do with Osama, I am still shocked for economic, not security reasons.

Imagine, during the economic recession when many Malaysian businessmen and construction contractors had difficulty getting work orders and income, the contracts were given to foreigners.

What kind of patriotism is this if the Malaysian government does not give priority to its own businessmen?

Are there no competent Malaysian businessmen? If the Malays are not good enough as suggested by Dr Mahathir, the contracts should at least be given to Chinese and Indian Malaysian businessmen so that we can save our foreign exchange, create more jobs for Malaysians and increase the circulation of money in the market. The government, thus, owes Malaysians a full explanation as to why and the types of contracts given to the already rich Saudi family.

All Malaysians have the right to know the details of the bin Laden's family business in Malaysia.
