Police chief's statement reveals his incompetency
I refer to a report in a daily regarding K. Thanarajah's claims on looting at his demolished bungalow in Bukit Antarabangsa.
Just because two huge safes were retrieved from the rubble in the presence of press photographers and the owner, the police chief ‘hoped’ that this action would bring an end to accusations made against the authorities.
How ridiculous can anyone get? Do you expect anyone to loot a safe in broad daylight in the presence of so many people?
Thanarajah’s allegations of looting relate to small items, like jewellery, watches, currency notes, etc, that were allegedly pocketed by the search and rescue team, after work was called off.
To add insult to injury, the Selangor police chief issued a statement saying he was considering issuing an arrest warrant against Thanarajah, only to retract it later saying that he was not aware that Thanarajah had already given a statement to the police.
The Selangor police chief has been kept informed of everything from day one on what's been going on in Ground Zero, and to say that he was not aware is completely unacceptable.
Thanarajah lodged a report of looting in his completely demolished bungalow based on this suspicion, what he saw and photographs he had. It is up to the police to investigate and find out the truth of his claims and not harass him in this manner.
He has absolutely nothing to gain and the police should be thankful to him for highlighting this matter. He has lost his beloved wife and the mother to his three young children and all his possessions, including his house and cars.
He has to start his life all over again from scratch. Is this how you react to a man who expects justice from the police?
It is hoped that the Selangor police chief will think and consult his officers before he shoots off his mouth again.
