I agree with XYZ's, 'Disappointed with PM's stand on terrorism' (Oct 2) that Dr Mahathir and Malaysia should be more active in helping our Western allies to fight the first war of the 21st century against international terrorism based in Afghanistan.

Like XYZ, I have great admiration for Mahathir for his firm and uncompromising stand against Islamic fundamentalism and extremism, both inside and outside the country.

In fact, Mahathir should not be worried about political repercussion. We are also fortunate because besides Mahathir, Singapore Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew is also very experienced in world affairs.

These two men can consult each other and send the armed forces as well as our brave and experienced Special Branch to fight the Taliban in Afghanistan who have created so much trouble for the world.

I would even go further to suggest that Malaysia be more cooperative with the US government by handing over all our ISA detainees, like Nik Adli Nik Aziz, Tian Chua, Mohd Ezam Mohd Nor, Hishamuddin Rais as well as Anwar Ibrahim who was alleged to be an Islamic fundamentalist by a prestigious US think tank, to the FBI and CIA for further investigations to determine if they deserved punishment for crimes against humanity.

By being more co-operative in this concrete manner, the bilateral ties between Malaysia and the US can be upgraded even faster, and we could hope to benefit from more investments from the US.

Terrorism must be fought with real actions, not merely words in the pages of newspapers.
