Muslims should take lead in diplomacy
There is much protest over the US' (and its allies) attack on Afghanistan, and cries from Muslim leaders to respond on what they consider is an assault on Islam.
I do not support the US retaliation on Afghanistan, mostly because it will harm many civilians, including many Afghans who are not supporters of the Taliban. But what did the ones who flew those planes on Sept 11 really think would be the US' reaction?
If Muslims feel that strongly that the US attacks are unjustified, should they not be taking the lead in diplomacy to find a resolution? If the concern is that Osama bin Laden could not have a fair trial in the US, maybe some compromise could be worked out.
Nobody has yet taken responsibility for the Sept 11 attack. Whether Osama had any say in these, I have no idea. But then he continues to call for a 'jihad' against the US. If he wants peace, he should be speaking peace.
