Over the last two weeks, letters from malaysiakini readers have been very vocal against PAS for its stand against American aggression over Afghanistan.

In my opinion, most of the points raised are based on what they read in our national dailies. Allow me to correct a few points highlighted by your readers:

1) PAS supports the Taliban and all its policies. The truth is, PAS supports the innocent Afghan people and reiterates its stand that these people are not to be victimised by the United States in "seeking revenge". What difference is there between the United States and the terrorists of Sept 11 incidents if the US, too, resorts to killing innocent lives?

2) PAS supports Osama and his terrorist network. PAS has reiterated it's stand for the US to provide the world with proof to convict Osama. The US has no right to extradite Osama from Afghanistan considering that no 'extradition treaty' was ever signed between the two countries.

Furthermore, the same request was made by the Taliban rulers. It would have solved the conflict peacefully if the US had presented proof of Osama's guilt. The Taliban would have gladly averted a war and handed over Osama

3) PAS does not condemn terrorism. How can that be possible when PAS was one of the earliest bodies in Malaysia to condemn the Sept 11 attacks? At the same time, terrorist acts committed by the US must also be condemned.

4) PAS does not condemn human rights atrocities committed by Islamic regimes all over the world. Again, where is the proof for PAS to condemn anyone. Most of these accusations were put forward by the Western media who have never made their anti-Islam stand secret. How can PAS condemn acts which have never been committed?

What about the terrorist acts committed by Israel? How come no one condemns the US for not condemning the acts?

5)PAS does not support the handing over of Osama to the US. Since when does the US hold a special position in world justice and order? The US, like any other country in the world, is subject to the universal rule of justice, and that is, "one is innocent until proven guilty".

Why was there no severe bombing of Serbia, and instead, the perpetrator of ethnic cleansing was brought to trial and the whole justice machinery was in full swing when it comes to atrocities against Muslims in Bosnia? Why can't the same process be repeated for the Sept 11 incidents?

6) PAS does not support "war against terrorism". The war in Afghanistan is actually a war perpetrated by terrorists.

Why doesn't the world condemn Western double standards for closing one eye when Israel committed the worst atrocities? And yet it punishes the whole Muslim world when unproven acts of atrocities were committed and blamed on Muslims by the Jewish dominated media?

PAS is actually being blamed for not submitting to the international media's version of the conflict. Since when does the international media hold sole rights to the truth?
