I refer to the Malaysiakini report Time running out for 'deviationist' sect .

I am writing to Malaysiakini to express my concern over the increasingly hostile attitude towards the Ahmadiyya Muslim community in Malaysia.

Within the last month, a mosque belonging to this community has been ordered to erase their motto and the declaration of their faith from their building that reads: ‘There is none worthy of worship save Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah’.

It has come to my attention that the press and media in Malaysia is also taking a more antagonistic and hostile attitude towards the community

The Ahmadiyya Muslim community has always, since it's inception in 1989, been a peace-loving community. It is a part and parcel of our faith that we should bring no harm to the creatures of God by hands, tongues or minds and that we should harbour no ill-will against those of other faiths on account of our different views of God.

It is also a part and parcel of our faith to live and abide by the rules of the country to the highest extent of our capacity. It is most tragic, therefore, that Malaysia has begun to follow in the footsteps of other intolerant countries such as Pakistan and has begun to restrict our religious practises and doings for no other reason than that we hold a different doctrine to the main of Muslims.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim community was founded in 1889 by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian. He claimed to be the Promised Messiah and Mahdi (Guided One) of the Muslims, as foretold by the Prophet Muhammad (saw) and as foretold by the Qur'an.

He claimed to have come in the gentle and meek spirit of Jesus and we, his followers, as a result adopt the ‘turn the other cheek’ approach to whosoever should act aggressively towards us. He claimed to be the Prophet of the latter days who would, according to the Qur'an and the Holy Prophet (saw), bring mankind into the fold of the one universal religion -Islam - solely through peaceful means.

I'm sure your readers will agree that a community with such an emphasis on peace, a community who's motto is: ‘Love for All, Hatred for None’ is a community that does not deserve, regardless of doctrinal differences, to be persecuted in any way, shape or form.

Please do not allow propaganda against the Ahmadiyya Muslim community to seep into your media articles. Malaysian Ahmadiyya Muslims have done no harm to anyone. If our doctrines are offensive to God, then he will deal with us.

As for freedom of religious conscience, Islam professes it to the highest degree; in the words of the Qur'an: ‘There should be no compulsion in religion’ (2:257).
