I would like to support the comments made by Ahmad Rizal regarding 'Separation of powers, solution to restore positive perception of Islam', (Oct 18).

The recent uneventful events have brought about the misperception of Islam by the entire non-Islamic world. And how can we blame all these people when we see many Muslims over the world supporting the Taliban group and projecting Osama bin Laden as an Islamic hero?

Extremists and those who support the Taliban and Osama repeatedly demanded for proof that Osama is guilty. I think that there is sufficient proof already and that Osama and his group have openly threatened to launch more attacks on the US. They are indirectly acknowledging that they are the guilty parties.

As a Muslim myself, I think this is sufficient evidence. I also strongly feel that the terrorists not only hijacked four planes on Sept 11, but also Islam. From that day onwards, not only the New York twin towers were destroyed, but the tower of Islamic values was also brought down with these buildings. They have turned Islam into an ugly religion for the world to perceive.

Peace-loving Muslims like me are caught in this global stereotype of Muslims. I think that it is high time that we should start changing the negative image that the world has on us. We should start educating Muslims on the truth of Islam which is built on the foundations of peace and love. We must show the world that these terrorists and evil people who hijacked Islam are not real Muslims.

I strongly urge all Muslims to stop using Islam for their own interests. Islam should be respected as a religion and not be exploited by politics. . .and I do hope we can begin with Muslims in Malaysia.
