The whole world seems to be standing still and screaming in mock horror as Israeli sends its bombers and soldiers into Gaza which resulted in hundreds and perhaps thousands of innocent Palestinians losing their lives.

Outgoing President Bush wasted no time in supporting the Jewish regime. He said that the Israeli response was justified because Hamas has been firing rockets into Israeli territory killing its citizen. Some Malaysians also share Bush’s sentiments.

What these Malaysians fail to understand is that the so-called war between the Palestinians and the Israeli regime has never been an equitable one. It is just like the situation when the Serbs started to attack the (Muslim) Bosnians during the recent war in the former Yugoslavia which resulted in the break-up of the republic founded by (Croat) President Tito.

During the Bosnian war, the British (under prime minister Margaret Thatcher and her foreign secretary Douglas Hurd) made every effort to stop arms from being shipped to the Muslim Bosnians to defend themselves.

In the end, the (UN) Dutch soldiers did nothing to stop the massacre of Muslim men and boys by the Serbs led by (now) war criminals Ratko Mladic who is yet to be captured by the United Nations.

In the case of Gaza, let us just say that some of the Hamas elements did indeed fire on Israeli settlements from time to time but the question is, are those settlements legitimate or are they just frontline settlements by the Israeli authorities which are used to justify the Israeli incursion and eventually to annex Gaza for the second time?

After winning the Six Day War, the Israelis were very reluctant to return Gaza and Golan Heights but had to give them back after getting all the concessions such the recognition of the Israeli right to exist.

One thing that is very clear is that the Israeli response has been grossly disproportionate ie, one self-propelled grenade fired by Hamas on an Israeli was replied with a scorched earth policy.

Let’s not forget that there is another big reason behind this Israeli all-out attack on Gaza is to warn incoming US president Barack Obama that the American Jews and Israelis will not allow him to drastically change the American policy on the Palestinian issue.

‘Don't mess with us or you too will suffer the fate of the Palestinians,’ the Jews seem to be telling Obama. After all, Obama's chief of staff, Rahm Emmanuel, is a Jew whose father lives in Israel.

The Israeli and Jewish American lobbies have already made it quite clear to Obama that 'he should be afraid, very afraid' if he ever shows any great sympathy to the Muslim world.

Not only will Obama come under pressure from the American Jewish lobby as well as the Israelis, he will also have to kowtow to all kinds of pressure groups who also would not want to see any change in the status quo on the Palestinian issue. After all the, Palestinians are not really 'suffering' because massive amounts of UN aid are being poured into Gaza and their other areas.

On taking office, Obama will make it quite clear that he believes that Israel has every right to exist and have every right to self-defence, proportionate or disproportionate. That is the framework being prepared by his Jewish advisers and aides which Obama will repeat from time to time.
