I would like comment on recent declassification of the major toll agreements by the government and subsequent public access to this documents.
I am a resident of Bandar Seri Putra (PPM Interchange) and for years we have been paying additional toll charges, ie. toll charges to Plus and also additional charge to Lebuhraya Kuala Lumpur - Sg Besi (MetraMac).
These additional charges are charged on motorists travelling south-bound from Plaza Sg Besi to UPM, Kajang, Bangi and PPM. This is actually additional hardship for residents who reside in these areas.
I have done a cost analysis as in the chart below. The current rate per km is 14.96 sen per km. However, we residents do pay more. I hope this letter can be published so that the government will review these dual agreements which were, after all, signed by the government.
The current rate for the Plus Highway is set at 14.96 sen per km. And the distance calculated is based on Plus' LMR (Limit of Maintenance Responsibilities).
However, for south-bound motorists entering from Plaza Sg Besi heading towards UPM, Bangi, Kajang and PPM (Persimpangan Putra Mahkota) we pay more then the specified rate.
We also have to pay additional toll charges for Lebuhraya Kuala Lumpur - Sg Besi. (From Sg Besi RMAF air base till Plaza Toll Sg Besi - a distance of about 10km). This additional charge is charged as one exits at any of these destinations.
This cost is a burden to we residents who are staying in these areas. I am still puzzled as to why we have to pay these additional toll charges.
As this stretch (Lebuhraya Kuala Lumpur - Sg Besi) - maintained by Metramac - is also connected to other roads and other motorists are not charged. I hope the government can review this agreement and make some rectification as to these charges.
These extra charges are actually causing hardship to residents who stay in areas such as Kajang, Bangi, Putra Mahkota and commute daily to work in Kuala Lumpur using the Plus Highway.
Morever, these additional toll charges incurred are also hampering the development of new townships along this areas,as every time PLUS intends to increase toll rates, we end up paying more then what is specified.
