If Palestine wants to be an equal partner of Israel, it should work with Tel Aviv towards a multilateral security umbrella covering Jordan, Lebanon and Egypt as well. Instead, they are firing rockets into Israel and thereby demonstrating that they are not yet ready for statehood.

The only unresolved issues between the Palestinians and Israelis are the status of east Jerusalem, the return of refugees to Israel and the final status borders between Palestine and Israel.

The Palestinians are free to conduct their own affairs in the West Bank and Gaza without any interference from Tel Aviv but they don't seem headed in that direction and instead are playing footsie with Iran and Hezbollah on the issue of terrorism.

Even if east Jerusalem and the return of the refugees have to be moth-balled, the only issue that remains unresolved is the status of the final borders. Even here, there are no great disagreements, give or take a few kilometres here and there along the border.

The settlements on occupied territory are not a stumbling block and most of them would have to either accept Palestinian authority or evacuate themselves if they are not placed under Israeli authority.

Land taken for the settlements, which would come under Israeli authority, would be compensated with Israeli land elsewhere along the border. Finally, there's always the courts to resort to.

Israel and Palestine are not the only nations on earth with border disputes. But life goes on. In this context, it must be noted that most of the comments by those stoking the fires in the region and pouring oil on the Palestine-Israel conflict are just so much water under the bridge.

Iran's pledge to wipe Israel off the map of the world is a case in point. It's no point revisiting the past as events have moved on since then. We can't turn the clock back but racists stand in the way and still dream of driving the Jews into the sea when Israel could help the entire Middle-East.

Malaysia should stop its foolishness. Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim was right in castigating the BN government's hypocrisy when it is seizing Dayak land in Sarawak under all sorts of pretexts.

Charity begins at home. The federal government should clean up its own backyard first as advised by Anwar Ibrahim.
