It is easy to answer TFP's 'Posers for fellow Muslims worldwide' (Nov 6). The orthodox brand of Islam practised by the Taliban believes absolutely in unity of Ummah or Muslim brotherhood that transcends national boundaries and loyalties, and sometimes even right from wrong. Osama bin Laden is absolutely counting on this brotherhood.

Brothers imply blood is thicker than water whatever the circumstances.

Supposing the writer has two brothers - Mr Osaliban and Mr Kabul.

Supposing brother Osaliban in his misguided way attack an outsider, an American, Mr Sam, and Mr Sam decides to avenge in retaliation.

Even if the writer does not believe what his brother, Mr Osalima did was right, to attack Mr Sam, would the writer willingly hand his brother Mr Osaliban to Mr Sam for punishment? If any of the writer's family members were suspected of a crime, would he report them to the police?

Supposing further that when retaliating, Mr Sam hits Mr Kabul who did know, in his innocence, what the commotion was about. Wouldn't the writer defend Mr Kabul and fight against Mr Sam?

It is different when brother Osalima hits brother Kabul. What would the writer do when his brothers squabble? He would either allow them to sort it out themselves or mediate a peace but under what circumstances he will side Kabul to inflict injury on Osalima?

I believe the brief analogy of the emotion "blood is always thicker than water" should answer, to the writer's satisfaction, all his posers.
