We refer to the Malaysiakini report Intel to shut facilities in Penang.

Specifically , paragraph five of the report reads: ‘In Penang, some 2,000 workers are expected to lose their job as a result of this move.’

We would like to clarify that the above statement is incorrect and may send a wrong message to your readers nationwide.

For your reference, it is Intel Malaysia’s intent to offer our employees comparable jobs within our other facilities in Malaysia - and this includes Penang and Kulim.

Intel has a window of opportunity to re-deploy its very experienced employees to its growing operations at our other factories in Malaysia.

In Malaysia, Intel believes the community will see a minimal impact due to Intel’s other operations, and Intel is committed to continuing its involvement locally.

The writer is corporate affairs manager, Intel Malaysia.
