Regrettable decision by British news channels
I am shocked and disgusted that many news channels in the UK have chosen not to air an appeal for aid by aid agencies of the Gaza (Palestine) crisis. Both the BBC and Sky channels have refused to air the appeals for aid made by the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC).
The DEC is made up of reputable aid agencies which are committed to providing humanitarian aid to both man made and natural disasters affecting people on a large scale. These include Oxfam, the Red Cross, Christian Aid and SaveTheChildren.
The decision by the BBC is particularly offensive as it claims that it wishes to remain impartial in its news reporting and airing an appeal for aid would breach that code of impartiality.
It is unbelievable that there are people in this world who view political considerations as being of priority as compared to humanitarian concerns. Important to note that from a legal point of view, an inaction is also a form of action. Thus the decision by the news channels is seen as an attempt to block sympathy or reduce empathy for the Palestinian people.
Furthermore, Western owned news channels such as BBC and CNN were actually promoting Israeli disinformation and lies. The biggest lie of the crisis is the claim that Israel invaded Gaza because Hamas militants were firing rockets at Israel.
The truth is that it was Israel that broke the ceasefire on the Nov 5, 2008, when Israel troops crossed into Gaza near the town of Deir al-Balah and killed a Hamas member.
During the ceasefire, Hamas did not fire a single rocket into Israel. Of course after Israel broke the ceasefire, Hamas fired rockets into israel and Israel responded with an air-strike and so the cycle of violence began.
Hamas should be commended because they did not break the truce, Israel did. In fact, Hamas accepted the truce despite it being unfair in that Israel continued to maintain its economic blockade upon Gaza, preventing them from exporting goods and limiting the goods that they can import.
Israel's strangulation of Gaza has caused the Palestinians to be 100 percent dependant on aid for survival. Without aid, the Palestinian people have no food and no medicine. Yet the work of these aid agencies are being hampered by certain news media whose policies are guided by their Machiavellian styled thinking.
The Palestinians have suffered enough. There is credible evidence that Israel used white phosphorous in its ammunition, which it fired into densely populated Palestinian areas.
Israel's attack on Gaza has repercussions for all of us. We can see how Israel has inspired Sri Lanka which is showing little care for its civilian victims in its war with the Tamil Eelam.
Israel has lowered the benchmark for international human rights and has instead strengthened the hand of fascists and racial supremacists the world over.
