I refer to the letter Little Darshini and the how of marginalisation

I felt sickened by the plight of Little Darshini. It is a plight made possible in Malaysia by a callous system tutored by Umno to be suspicious of non-Malays and non-Muslims as if they might be veritable enemies of the state or threats to national security.

No matter how pitiful or poverty-stricken, many Malaysians perceive that as long as you are non- Malay and non-Muslim, then the government system will not assist you.

The truth is Little Darshini has been portrayed as a threat to the agama and bangsa simply by virtue of her ethnicity so that Umno can continue to justify it's racist policies since this is the only vote-winning strategy they have left.

Similarly I can understand the writer's frustration in his letter about nobody doing enough to free the Hindraf Five immediately. It is exactly the plight of people like Little Darshini that drove Hindraf protesters to demonstrate in public, and its leaders to endure prison without trial under the dreaded ISA.

Likewise I can understand the last-ditch efforts by the minuscule limited circulation ethnic minority Catholic Herald magazine to protest the government's ban even as Syed Hamid gleefully accuses it of showing it's rude ‘strength’.

This is akin to deliberately fixing a false charge on an innocent man and then feigning mock surprise in front of his imagined Malay-Muslim vote bank when the innocent party refuses to go away quietly or politely without protest.

This describe the consequences of Umno's disgusting politics of demonisation of the ethnic minorities as imagined threats to Malay-Muslim culture, religion, language and race.

The sad fact is that Umno has always won votes and power by proffering itself as the great protector of Malay-Muslim agama and bangsa. Without imaginary enemies and bogeymen, Malay-Muslims are not going to vote Umno.

It is important for over-privileged obscenely wealthy Umnoputras that Malay-Muslims continue voting for Umno, otherwise Umno leaders will suddenly have to live on normal salaries like the rest of us.

Since I cannot see Umnoputras voluntarily opting for a billion-ringgit salary cut, then I can only predict that the only way any of the problems depicted earlier can be solved is when Pakatan Rakyat comes into power.

In the meantime, if you are Little Darshini, Uthayakumar or the Catholic Herald , your identity and main contribution to nation-building in the hands of Umno will be as convenient bogeymen, bogey-women, bogey-boys and bogey-girls.

Your identity and significance in the Malay-Muslim vernacular mainstream press will be whatever Umno wants it to be. Only the powerful can make you wear a mask against your will, and Umno is definitely the most powerful entity in Malaysia.

Only the powerful can accuse you of being rude, threatening or ungrateful when you protest to say you don't like the mask they have glued onto your face.

Only when Pakatan Rakyat wins will Malaysians finally be able to show each other our true human faces instead of the demonic masks thrust onto our faces by Umno.
