I had followed the developments in Perak recently and am very frustrated with what has taken place. Being a Perakian myself who was a victim of Umno’s unfair racial policy, I am now residing in Germany.

The decision of the sultan - one who thus far has been loved and respected by many Perakians - is most disappointing. In the political tsunami of March 8, 2008, people throughout Malaysia had, in one voice, opted to vote out the Barisan Nasional government because of their arrogance, corrupt practices, and highhanded manner in handling the affairs of state.

More so, they rejected Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s leadership that led the country down the slope of global non-competitiveness. The unwillingness of the Barisan Nasional government to attend to the needs of the rakyat was the prime factor for the rakyat's rejection of them.

The mind-boggling cloud of suspicion circling around Najib Abdul Razak's credibility is yet another reason why the people of Malaysia opted for a change.

Based on the candidates who stood for the March 8, 2008 general election, many of Pakatan's representatives were new faces and first-timers with very little track record. Yet they beat the political giants from the Barisan camp, some with huge majorities.

This clearly showed that the rakyat, then, had voted for the party instead of the individual. The resounding victory by the opposition parties reflected the voice of the rakyat and this must be respected with the utmost integrity and sanctity.

Therefore, the decision of the sultan of Perak in not agreeing to the request of Menteri Besar Mohd Nizar to call for fresh elections in the state in order to seek a new mandate from Perakians is to ignore and show of disrespect towards wishes of the people of Perak who love their ruler extremely.

However, it is not too late for the sultan to re-think his decision and show his love and concern for the Perakians under him.

To handover the reins of power to someone whose character and conduct is most questionable and will not augur well for Malaysia. Everyone in Malaysia and many outside Malaysia are aware that Najib uses power to his advantage at the expense of the poor rakyat in Malaysia.

His manipulative tactics for his personal gain are easily recognisable - the missing private eye, the death of the Mongolian lady, the questionable dealings in the purchase of submarines and helicopters, the sodomy case against Anwar Ibrahim, etc.

Can Malaysians imagine how such a person with major dent in his moral character is going to be the prime minister of Malaysia? I pray that God will save all Malaysians.

To Hee Yit Foong, a clerk who turned deputy speaker of the Perak state assembly, you will be remembered as the greatest traitor, a woman with no gratitude and principles.

You have betrayed the trust Perakians had bestowed upon you. Your life will be tormented because of your betrayal and your greed for power and success. You were lying when a few days ago you denied that you will not quit and turn against your people.

Lastly, I hope that the all-wise and learned and respected Sultan of Perak will re-think his decision. There is nothing to be shameful about in order to revert to a correct decision.
