As a Malaysian, I wish to give my view as a citizen who cast his vote in the March 2008 general election. The people had spoken and the results tabled. Perak, a state ruled by BN was lost to the opposition coalition (PKR, DAP, PAS)

Malaysians must heed the prime minister’s statement when the PM took his first term in office. He said: ‘The people’s choice must be respected’. Thus the decision of the people of Perak to vote for the opposition must be respected to.

A lot of time has passed since the last general election and political leaders should get down to running the country. But since March last year, BN leaders and the federal government, have hindered all efforts by the opposition to rule the state.

The BN leaders have not given due respect to the winners of the election. Thus, the Perak crisis is due to the unprincipled and corrupt political system used by BN.

The Bota representative, the two ex-PKR exco men and the deputy speaker who won on Pakatan Rakyat tickets are all unprincipled politicians. The people of Perak voted for the party each of them represented not for them as ‘independents’

BN coming forth and now declaring that they have the majority mandate in Perak clearly proves the there must be ‘mischief’ behind the scenes that saw the crossover of these unprincipled and corrupt politicians.

Even Dr Mahathir Mohamad made a statement that BN should consider carefully who it takes in. Alas, the people of Perak are now overruled by the political system used by BN.

With the humblest and deepest respect to the Sultan Azlan Shah of Perak, this whole episode stinks as BN has been allowed to subvert the will of the people through corruption. The correct democratic way is to hold the by-elections and let the nation see how these politicians can win against the opposition candidates.

The BN leaders do not respect good governance and the people’s choice. Since the general election in March 2008, they have continued with all sorts of political ploys to ridicule the opposition state government and leaders. This is undemocratic.

We, the people, are at lost as we are to receive a new prime minister who advocates unscrupulous and ‘dirty’ political ploys. Corruption and underhand systems are the rule of the day.

The people have spoken again recently in Terengannu. So we will wait for the next general election. Malaysians, unite for a better future!
