Much has been said about how 'Talibanistic' rules affect the non-Muslims in our country. The Muslim laws on gambling and drinking of alcohol are not made by humans like PAS member of Parliament Mahfuz Omar, who was recently criticised for taking issue with EPF's million-ringgit investments in such companies ("Let's not adopt a 'Talibanistic' lifestyle", Nov 29). It is the law of the Quran. Criticising Mahfuz is like critcising Allah and one must be mindful of that.

Anyway, there are countries that do not encourage smoking. Some sports events that would have raked in millions have been rejected by the host country because of their laws and principles. And these are not the run-of-the-mill, stereotyped Middle-Eastern 'extremist' countries, but progressive, developed European countries. Can their policies be considered 'Talibanistic'?

There are no casinos in mainland China, Singapore, Thailand and India (although 'Muslim Malaysia' has one). What do we call these countries' policies?
