After reading many letters on EPF's investments in alcohol, tobacco and gaming companies, I would like to inform all that the call was purely to protect the Muslim rights to make sure all their income is halal .

For Muslims, it is haram to drink, serve, buy or sell alcoholic drinks, or plant grapes that are used for producing such drinks.

The same goes for gambling.

As a majority of the EPF contributors are Muslim workers, the call by PAS MP Mahfuz Omar was a right move.

Muslims will be questioned by the God (Allah) on judgment day, on where we get our wealth, where we spent it and all this must be according to Islam.

There is a list of companies in the KLSE which shows which ones are halal . This is nothing to do with the extremism and fundamentalism or the Talibanistic lifestyle. This is also has nothing to do with banning the alcohol and gaming industries.

If non-Muslims have the right to practise their own beliefs and religions, Muslims, too, have the right to practise their own beliefs according to Islamic teaching.

In any debate about such issues, some non-Muslims always argue for their rights without even considering the Muslims' right and at the same time they expect the Muslims to understand about their rights but not vice versa.

I hope No-To-Islamic-State and others who share such ideas will mix around more often with Muslim friends and try to understand them before making such comments. What we need is the understanding and respect among Muslims and non-Muslims, of each other's culture and religion.
