I refer to the letter Opposition parties just politicking all the time .

I grinned with disbelief on all the facts mentioned by the writer. It surprises me that he can submit a letter with so many flawed opinions. Allow me just to touch on a few:

1. ‘When the Bota assembly person crossed over, all PKR supporters were happy but when vice versa happened, everyone is disgruntled and carried out demonstrations.’

I do not deny the fact that it was morally wrong for the Bota member to cross over as it did not respect the wishes of his constituency. However, most of the Perak citizens did not voice their anger and demonstrate openly as party-hopping is a norm as we can see in the past.

Unfortunately, the act by BN to make such a bold move in convincing two PKR members who have corruption charges hanging over their heads to abandon ship is indeed shocking.

Surely, Umno could patiently wait for the decision by the high court before allowing them into the BN team. It will be very worrying if indeed these two gentlemen are not found guilty as most of us will definitely smell a rat.

The decision by Hee Yit Foong of DAP to quit is baffling but perhaps money could be a factor in addition to personal frustrations. The manner in which BN took control of the state was legally and constitutionally wrong as agreed by so many legal experts.

Perak Menteri Besar Nizar Jamaluddin will have to resign before a new guy can be sworn in. So why rush through the swearing-in process instead of first tabling a motion of no-confidence when the state assembly convenes?

Ask any Perak citizen, and I am sure most will agree this political coup by BN is indeed wrong and unethical and that is why even politically neutral people like me are fuming with rage.

2. ‘When petrol price was increased to RM2.70/litre, the opposition brought up the issue and the citizens fell for it and voted for change.’

I find it hilarious that the writer could just voice his own opinions without double-checking the real facts. BN swept to power during the general elections in March 2008 while the steep fuel hike was executed in June.

Hence, the citizens did not vote for change due to the hike in petrol but most Malaysians were quite fed up with the way the country was being run, corruptions, lack of reforms, etc. I could go on all day on the reasons why BN lost but it’s not at all due to the petrol price increase.

3. ‘For God’s sake, stop politicking and concentrate on how to better the people’s lives. To topple a government, all you played up were the racism issue.’

I strongly beg to differ that PR parties are the only ones busy playing politics as it looks like BN are the more aggressive ones. Look at the recent by-elections in Permatang Pauh and Kuala Terengganu.

BN mobilised all its machinery and armoury to try its best to win votes. Our future PM was also seen campaigning aggressively in KT. Isn’t the DPM who is also the finance minister supposed to be mapping out strategies to help our nation face the economic turmoil?

Should he not be meeting investors or negotiating with local factories not to close down? Instead, he wrongly placed all his focus on the political field and devoted all his energy in hope of winning the by-election.

We would not see this happening in the US for there are senate elections there and the president is not seen campaigning each day on behalf of his party candidates.

4. ‘The ISA is still relevant to stop people from causing community problems instead of for just terrorism.’

Indeed, the ISA is needed by all countries as then the various governments will have the right to detain suspected terrorists without trial.

However, the ISA in Malaysia seems to function as a warning to political trouble-makers who are trying to create awareness among Malaysians on the sad reality of life in Malaysia.

The detention of Teresa Kok is a complete joke, as till today, she has not been formally charged for any offence at all.

Moreover, detaining the newspaper reporter who had spoken the truth in her article is the greatest joke at all. I didn’t know the usage of ISA has been broadened to ‘protect’ a citizen’s life as well.
