I brought my father for a medical checkup in Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia recently. I was surprised to hear the call for Azan being played loudly over the hospital's public address system. This must be a first for any government hospital in the country.

The doctor who was examining my father had to stop momentarily as the loudness of the broadcast was interfering with his examination. I gather from the staff that this had been going on for the past one week.

I wish that the HUKM management would be more sensitive towards their patients' comfort and religious backgrounds. After all, the hospital was built with taxpayers' money and these taxpayers come from various religious beliefs. To ignore this would mean that the hospital certainly displays a lack of sensitivity towards their patients and staff of different religious backgrounds.
