The last days of Ramadan are the more important days for a Muslim for contemplation of his conduct on earth.

It would appear that this is entirely lost on de facto Law Minister Rais Yatim who had practically railroaded Abdul Gani Patail's appointment as attorney-general and then put up a motion of contempt against the youngest member of Parliament.

The learned speaker's conduct, by acceding to the tabling of a motion against DAP MP Fong Po Kuan, but doing nothing against Rais who had questioned his capabilities in understanding certain procedures related to the approval of the AG's appointment, is no less contemptible and reprehensible.

The issues of Gani's appointment and the Certificate in Legal Practice fiasco are not 'opposition' issues. These are issues which the average Malaysians are concerned about.

It is very sad that those who are diehard government supporters and who are equally concerned about these matters would rather close their hearts and minds than speak out or put pressure on resolving these matters. When the opposition and concerned groups take up this cudgel, they are shunned and ridiculed.

We are being increasingly stupid by association with the powers that be. So who are actually being ridiculous by remaining silent?
