I refer to the letter by Women's Aid Organisation's Jaclyn Kee 'The human rights of women' (Dec 11). I feel she may have missed the most important point in her suggestions to end sexual misconduct and domestic violence against women, which is money.

Women often endure abuse because they need the money. What good is it to lock up an abusive husband if it causes the wife to lose her source of income? Many women choose to become housewives and because of this they are dependent on their male spouse who is the breadwinner.

Even when women join the workforce, they suffer sexual harassment. Many women resent this and choose to wear clothing which shows a high moral standing.

Muslim women should be permitted to cover up their face and body. Buddhist women should have the right to wear robes and shave their heads. Yet, if women did this, they most probably would never be employed.

Unless women are allowed by society to dress in a manner that hides their beauty, the menace of sexual harassment and abuse will never cease to exist.
