Cruel fine of RM30,000 for Fong
The punishment for MP Fong Po Kuan (DAP - Batu Gajah) is really harsh. To suspend her from attending Parliament, which means also punishing the constituency she represents, is bad enough.
To cut her allowances for six months, which amounts to RM30,000, is certainly cruel, to say the least. That's a bigger fine than many serious crimes. She was just doing her duty to speak up for the people.
I don't think it's wrong for her to challenge what she perceives to be an injustice when a major national issue is not allowed to be debated in Parliament.
A more appropriate punishment, if the government feels so strongly about the matter, is to suspend her speaking rights in the house, not her attendance, for six months.
She should not suffer any financial loss for challenging what she perceives to be unfairness and injustice.
