I strongly agree with Tee Lin Dee that "Education, not dressing, will prevent rape" (Dec 8).

The public always assumes that women get raped because they are sexily dressed. If that is true, then why are there cases of schoolgirls in uniform getting raped too? And what about the elderly woman in her 70s. How about infants and young children? Were they sexily dressed? I believe not!

It all boils down to the uncontrollable male libido. We should educate men to understand that rape is wrong. They must understand that sex without consent is a crime.

Woman should also play their role in preventing rape. They should always be alert to their surroundings and be civic-minded enough to report any suspicious person to the police or security personnel. It also helps if they carry self-defence items like a pepper spray or special alarm device when going out.

Rape victims should understand that they are not at fault. They should also stand up for themselves by reporting rape crimes to the police. They could be saving another woman's life!
