The proposal put forward by DAP's chief, Lim Kit Siang on the need for a new opposition front is indeed remarkably novel, and even an epoch-making idea that deserves to be discussed with the most positive and humble attitude.

First and foremost, it has recognised that Keadilan and PRM are forces to be reckoned with, and that Muslims in these two parties are not extremists or fundamentalists. The recognition inevitably leads to the positive conclusion that the non-Muslims, including many former DAP leaders are farsighted and foresighted in joining Keadilan and PRM.

In Malaysia, all moderate elements should work together to challenge nationalist or racial extremism, whether ideologically or in practice.

It would be even better for DAP to make the proposal more solemn by getting it endorsed at its extraordinary general meeting or at least, the central committee meeting. The proposal should then be sent to the headquarters of Keadilan and PRM for positive considerations and intellectual discourses.

To further impress Keadilan and PRM and enhance the attractiveness of the proposal, DAP should perhaps detail the numbers of its members, divisions and branches so that, if the proposal is accepted in principle, all parties could work out the burden-sharing details, and to understand each other's strengths and weaknesses.
