Men who rape are just like bullying baboons
I refer to two interesting letters; Tee Lin Dee's 'Education, not dressing, will prevent rape' (Dec 13), and Karen's 'No rapist would dare target sexy Xena' (Dec 15).
Many men have always blamed rape victims for dressing sexily, thus inviting rape. The solution of some religions and cultures in preventing their men from losing control of their sexual urges is to punish their womenfolk by forcing them to cover themselves up.
Others recognise men's weakness and emphasises self-control and restraint. In some countries, prostitution is legalised so that men could go to them to release their pent-up desires. But such solution is too simplistic..
Rape is not only about sex. It is the domination over another by sexual force. In the animal kingdom, the weaker male baboons offered their backsides to the stronger male to signify its subordination. The stronger male will perform a symbolic thrust against the weaker male, confirming its superiority.
Most rapists will have something in common with each other. They cannot relate to today's modern women, who are well educated, outspoken and confident. They revert back to nature's way of dominance, by raping another seen as physically weaker, much like the weaker male baboon.
