On Don't appoint Najib as new premier

Quaish Deol: Zaid Ibrahim suggests that the King takes a proactive measure by not naming Najib as the next PM.

It would be nice if that happens but I think there are just too many conventions being broken in that suggestion. That would make it very difficult for the King to take that step.

I have another option for the King to consider, with all due respect and honour to His Highness.

Instead of naming someone other than Najib to be premier, why not simply keep Abdullah until his term expires? After all, he was elected by the people.

The King can simply summon Abdullah to the palace and inform him that he would like him to continue until his term ends.

He could say that it is in the interests of unity and stability; that it is a move to calm the current political turbulence and one which will allow everyone to focus on the economy.

A public statement to that effect can be released. Since Najib and Umno have been very vocal about supporting the Malaysian royals recently, it would be difficult for anyone to oppose the wishes of the King.

To add even more legitimacy, a vote could be taken in the Parliament to this effect. I am certain that the political divide will come together on this.

The King would have played his conventional role of head of state in a very apt manner and the country can heave a sigh of relief for the next three years.

On Will Najib be Umno's last prime minister?

Peter Yew: With all the forces of rejection weighing heavily on Najib, he cannot possibly accept the PM-ship next month, unless he is a man without conscience to ignore the fact that a large number in the populace don't want him to be PM.

If I were him I would seek a fresh mandate from the BN component parties instead of relying on the tradition of ascending to the premiership via Umno's presidency which is assured.

I hope that the other parties within BN be bold enough to tell to Najib's face what they feel about him.

If Najib persists, he may be the one to kill BN's chances at the 13th GE as well as the many by-elections before that.

On Muhyiddin slams Zaid, defends Najib

The Healer: Muhyiddin's defence is totally weak. He neither explains why Zaid was acting on the basis of self-interest and neither points out what Zaid is being opportunistic about.

Neither did Muhyiddin explain why Najib is the candidate that will unite all Malaysians contrary to what Zaid has mentioned.

Why should we Malaysians be spoon-fed facts with no reasoning? Have we not have it enough in school already?

And why does Mohd Shafie Apdal equates tradition to law? Is he the one really devoid of logic?

I wish he can cite the federal constitution to back his claims, otherwise he is just a clanging cymbal, contributing to the noise pollution.

Mohana Sundram: Aspiring No. 2 Muhyiddin's scathing attack on Zaid's appeal to the Yang Di Pertuan Agong not to appoint Najib as the next prime minister shows how desperate this man is in his pursuit to capture the number two spot.

While Zaid's speech was filled with decorum and analytical content, Muhyiddin, like a loose cannon, can only come up with typical Umno-style wild accusations devoid of logical refutation to points raised by Zaid.

There seems to be an element of panic and hysteria in his defense of Najib. It is a chilling thought that not one, but two unscrupulous men, may be in charge of this nation.

On Dr M endorses Muhyiddin as DPM

Maximadman: This past two days, your reports have included opinions and remarks from the ex-PM and reading into it, it is crystal clear that he has come full circle; that he can rule Malaysia again with Najib being the puppet.

His comments are full of veiled threats to Najib giving directives on who should or should not be chosen this coming Umno election.

One must remember that the refusal of Abdullah Badawi to appoint Dr M as senior minister is the real reason behind this very abusive and personal attack on Abdullah Badawi and Khairy, just as he did to Anwar Ibrahim.

He is a very destructive person, not realising that his years of wasteful spending caused us to be shackled and bound by creditors.

His idealism of fast-forwarding Malaysia to a developed country status brings more harm than good and many more mistakes spawned over 20 years or so.

Therefore, my belief is that Najib should never be the next PM at all costs lest we want to be ruled by Dr M again.

My Reaction: One can only wonder when Dr Mahathir Mohamad will learn to listen to the voice of his own conscience. The truth is whether he even has a conscience.

After all, who is the one who insisted on building the crooked bridge using public funds? And, because of this one man, the nation was at odds with its neighbour. He antagonised a number of other countries, and due to his lack of foresight, befriended the sinking Titanic - Japan.

Of course Malaysia Boleh , but why are we not looking east anymore, Dr Mahathir?

Who is it that has started the demoralisation process of Umno for his own selfish gains just to hit out at Pak Lah? Isn't he the very person who thinks he is god, who appoints one to be prime minister and stabs him in the back the next day?

If fact, Mahathir should realise that since he forced Tunku to step down back in the seventies, he has already started the process of alienation of Umno from the rest of the community.

During Tunku's time, there were good race relations compared to Mahathir's 22 years as premier, when he thought the use of force could win him power.

Who is it who removed the royals' immunity and subjected the royal family to ridicule? It wasn't Karpal Singh, but Mahathir.

I have already lost every grain of my respect for this man who is an Indian but who has forgotten his roots as the proverbial Malay saying goes, ‘ kacang lupakan kulit '.

My fellow Indian Muslim friends are more highly respected because they acknowledge their identity by their father's surname, but not this man.

Roshankl: Ever wonder why Dr M doesn't call for Najib to be investigated? Is it because Mahathir believes Najib is innocent?

Since there are many question unanswered with regards to the Altantuya case, it is only logical for Mahathir to call for a public enquiry.

The only logical thing to do now is for our PM, ex-PM, cabinet members, parliment members, ex-members of Parliament and other VIPs to call for the PM transition process to be suspended until Najib clears his name.

In fact, if Najib is clean of any wrongdoing, he should volunteer to call for a royal commission of enquiry to clear his name.

Tun, it is your call now. Because when you talk, everyone listens. Be honest to yourself and don't disappoint the rakyat who still have respect for you.

Timmy: Dear Dr M, I would like to seek some clarification from you on the below statements:

Your statement: ‘A lot of people believe about something but there is no legal stand taken on whether Najib is corrupt or not.' The other statement is that you support Najib as PM if he picks a clean cabinet.

So my question is what do you actually mean by a ‘clean cabinet'? Does clean cabinet mean ‘a cabinet created with all ministers who look clean to the public' or ‘clean' legally in the eyes of the law?

If your ‘clean' means ‘clean legally', then I take it as whoever found not guilty by a court is considered clean legally, and whatever the public perceives does not matter at all.

Then I would say all the BN MPs are qualified to be a minister because no one is officially implicated with anything just yet.

Therefore, whoever Najib chooses will result in a clean cabinet, which means you will support him as PM no matter whom he chooses.

But if you mean ‘clean' as ‘appearing as ‘clean' in the public eye, then I would like to ask why the double standards when you talk about new cabinet members and Najib himself who is not ‘clean' in the eyes of the public?

I would hope you can clarify your statement about a ‘clean' cabinet. The rakyat is so confused right now.
