Parliament should censure Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Inspector-General of Police Norian Mai for their silence on the Russian roulette-style shooting of a suspect, causing him to go blind in one eye.

According to DAP chairman Lim Kit Siang, the police, in keeping mum on the incident, is further testimony of the deterioration of good governance in Malaysia.

"Neither Abdullah nor Norian Mai had said a single word on such outrageous police gun-play in the past week, showing their utter indifference and unconcern about police discipline and public opinion," he added.

How Soon Hock, a robbery suspect, was allegedly shot and blinded in the right eye during a police interrogation. According to him, the police were playing Russian roulette with him.[#1] (Gunshot victim told to lie to doctor[/#], Oct 16).

He was also allegedly subjected to severe beating of his soles with rubber hoses and "electric prod" treatment all over his body at the Puchong police station in Selangor, following his arrest on Oct 2.

Lim also called on the IGP to give his personal attention to How's case to end such abuses of police powers and Abdullah, as home affairs minister, to immediately ban Russian roulette as a form of police intimidation technique, and to classify the use of Russian roulette as a serious breach of police discipline.
