On Another day of excitement unravels

Malaysian Malaysia: Below are my imagined reactions from Umno leaders after the party elections yesterday:

Mahathir: ‘What? My son lost? There must be some pengundi hantu who voted for KJ. No, no. KJ used money politics.'

Khairy: ‘You see now, who win? You say I win ‘free' last time, now you see...'

Mukhriz: ‘Aiyo, how will I face my father now. Malu habis '

Khir Toyo: ‘Oh god, I should have used more money. KJ won because of money. Next time I will give more money to delegates rather than to my wife.

‘Damn, my wife got into Balkis trouble!'

Rafidah: ‘ Ape? Kalah besar ? I gave so much APs last time and this is what I get in Umno? Woi, Kuala Kangsar people supported me you know!

How is it possible the person who lost to Nurul Izzah won against me? Haiya!'

Shahrizat: ‘Yes! I won finally. Next time, don't bantai me tau .'

Muhyiddin Yassin: ‘Oh no! I should not have used Mahathir to back me up! I am finished now.'

Muhammad Muhammad Taib: ‘I am safe now. Thank you, Ali Rustam. My Australian experience helped me to evade Umno disciplinary action.'

Pak Lah: ‘Looks like my team is winning. Maybe I should stay on longer. Okay, I got a way. One of my reform bill in Parliament has been deferred... sounds good to me...'

Najib: ???

Timmy Say: We were hoping to hear there will be change in the style of politics.

This would be the maturity to balance party needs versus country needs, to distinguish what can and cannot be compromised and to admit that the other side (the rakyat ) might sometimes have a point.

We were waiting for some honest confession on how they have erred in their responsibility towards Malaysia.

Instead, they wasted much time with cheap shots and personality bashing all of which further erodes our confidence in the belief that they are indeed reforming.

For ordinary folk like us, we may not understand the arguments between the right and left or conservative and liberal.

But we recognise the difference between rhetoric and common sense, responsibility and irresponsibility and the consistency between words and actions.

Sadly, none of the speeches delivered gave any inspiration to the rakyat .

And to Khairy, my heartiest congratulation on your victory as it is timely to help the majority of Malaysians to send a strong message to Tun Dr M that his recent emotion-stirring statements are not welcomed at all.

Hope you are serious about reforming Umno Youth. If possible - your first step - should be to allow the new media to cover your prestigious assembly.

John Tan: ‘Delegates attending the 59 th assembly will cast their votes to choose the party's next deputy president and the country's next prime minister. They will also choose three vice- presidents and 25 supreme council members.'

Imagine this. The country's next prime minister is to be decided by 2,500 odd people out of 27 million Malaysians.

What is even worse is that, putting aside the opposition, even partners in the BN coalition do not even have a vote on this matter.

The internal leadership of Umno is rightfully Umno's prerogative, but the leadership of the country?

The silence of all the coalition partners in BN on the matter is really is a big surprise. You can even hear a pin drop in the great silence.

On Khairy Jamaluddin is new Youth chief

Proarte: If Khairy is wise, he will use his talent to modernise Umno and make it more inclusivist.

Umno has to become non-racial and open its doors to all Malaysians if it is to survive in the long term. The world has changed, apartheid is a dead philosophy and Obama is the president of the US. Wake up Umno!

Khairy has intellect and ability but he does not have principles. His racist stance in Umno is not reflective of his real inclinations - he spent his formative years abroad in a non-Malay environment.

He was educated at Oxford and formed many close friendships with non-Malay Malaysian students whilst he was there.

His racist antics were purely opportunistic; it is de rigeur in Umno Youth to be a 'Malay ultra' if you want to rise up the ladder. He did just that but was oblivious of the changing world around him and of the rakyat 's disgust with BN.

He assumed Mahathir's time-honoured racist and chauvinist modus operandi would work for him. March 8 showed him that racism just will not work anymore, Mahathirism is passe now.

A reformed Umno will also be good for Pakatan Rakyat in that they will both keep each other in check. This will be a positive development for Malaysia.

Currently, PR appears to be a superior alternative because BN is utterly corrupt and immoral.

PR does not even have to try hard at all in order to be an acceptable alternative and that is bad for itself and also for a properly functioning democracy.

Frankly Xroy: Khairy Jamaluddin's outright victory in the Youth elections of Umno is the surest sign that this nation is fed up to the core with Mahathirism and all it stands for.

Today, as we prepare to witness one of the fiercest battles for the Umno deputy presidency since the Musa/Razaleigh era, let us watch the tables being turned.

My hunch is that Muhammad Muhammad Taib, the ex-menteri besar, will come out victorious, a sure sign to Mahathir and even Najib that the rest of Umno and the ordinary Malay voter are against the brand of politics played by power-greedy politicians.

To Dr Mahathir Mohamad, I'd say go hang up your gloves while you still can. You have divided the Malaysian community and you have deprived the Malays.

On Shahrizat wins Wanita chief post

Rakyat Malaysia: Umno reform? Rafidah won in the general elections but lost in Umno. Shahrizat lost in the general elections but won in Umno.

What a great reform, Umno!

Mooshie Mooshie: Bravo to the Umno Youth movement. First we hear of two from the wing being investigated for wrongdoing.

One was found to have committed an infringement but let off the hook with a warning. Even so, he was allowed to stand for the party elections.

And now he is the leader of Umno Youth. Now we have political parties run by crooks . God help Malaysia's youth.

On Hot rhetoric and Pakatan Bashing

Displaced From My Own Country: ‘Penang delegate Mohd Zaidi Mohd Said was quoted as saying that, ‘The biggest mistake we ever did was to free Anwar (from jail).'

This statement is equivalent to Hishammuddin raising the keris at previous Umno assemblies.

It seems to represent the Umno entrenched belief that they have some God-given and unlimited right to rule this country.

So Umno can tell the judiciary to release any person who has been imprisoned? Since there was stomping on the floor from the audience, it is an accepted fact that the judges are Umno's puppets?

The biggest mistake was to not have unseated Umno from power, firmly and decisively, in the last GE.

On Hisham, the keris will never be forgotten

Vj: Isn't it is wrong to carry a weapon in public? What is a keris doing at the Umno gathering?

While the police arrest opposition members and others who assemble peacefully, why is it no action is taken against Umno members who carry dangerous weapon in public?
