English newspapers

New Straits Times headlined the polls fever in Bukit Selambau, Bukit Gantang and Batang Ai as 15, 3 and 2 candidates were nominated in the respective seats.

Star led with a polls record due to the large number of independents as well as candidates, and the first time three by-elections are being held at one go.

Malay newspapers

Both Utusan Malaysia and Berita Harian also led with the number of candidates nominated to stand for the by-elections.

Tamil newspapers

All Tamil newspapers ( Makkal Osai , Malaysia Nanban, Tamil Nesan ) led with 15 nominees for the by-election in Bukit Selambau.

Editorial

New Straits Times commented on the nominations for the by-elections stating that what it takes to win a by-election would have minimum impact on what it takes to govern.

Utusan Malaysia urged the new Umno leadership to fulfil their pledge on reforms.

Berita Harian stated that the results of the three by-elections must not be used as a yardstick to gauge the acceptance of the people for the new Umno leadership.

Malaysia Nanban commented on the reduction in the interests for home loans.
