Kedah PPP deputy chairperson K Vadiveloo today denied that there had been a mass defection of state party members to PKR.

Speaking to reporters at a hotel in Sungai Petani, he also dismissed the claim by PPP vice-president V Nagarajan - who is leading the purported mass defection - that members from six out of the total 11 divisions in Kedah have joined PKR.

At a PKR ceramah in Sungai Lalang last night, Nagarajan confirmed that six out of the 11 PPP divisions have been dissolved and would be absorbed into PKR.

Commenting on this, Vadiveloo said: "As far as we know there were only seven members with him last night, and out of that five were sacked from the party sometime ago."

He also described Nagarajan, who joined PPP in 1998 after quitting MIC, as a leader without any support in the party.

"When he joined PPP he had many demands and our leaders in Barisan Nasional had given him a lot of assistance but he still walked out," he said.

Police report filed

"He may have left with a few but not 6,000," he stressed.

The Kedah PPP leader revealed that the six division chiefs had a meeting with 4,000 of their members this morning and assured that there were no dissolution of branches.

Besides the PPP members, Kampung Jerai Umno deputy chief Marzuki Md Akib and Nai Bao Seong, a Malaysian Thai community leader, also joined PKR last night.

With Marzuki were 51 members of the Kampung Jerai division whereas Nai brought along 104 members into PKR.
