Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad will talk about the fight against terrorism in Malaysia and present the countrys views on capital flows at the annual World Economic Forum in New York today.

National news agency Bernama reported that the premier, who left for New York on Friday, will also present a special message on Islam in a modern state besides participating in a workshop on capital flows.

The report said the New York is heavily barricaded and some 4,000 police personnel have been deployed to ensure the forum proceeds smoothly.

The five-day meet will the see the participation of some 2,7000 business and political leaders from around the world.

Antartica visit

Activists made their presence felts in New York today with a peaceful but noisy protest by some 2,000 people displaying placards reading No WEF. The protestors also yelled US out of Afghanistan and Shut down capitalism.

Mahathir is also scheduled to visit Ground Zero - the site where the World Trade Centre once stood before it was reduced to a pile of rubble on Sept 11.

The premier will leave for Antarctica on Tuesday for a six-day working visit followed by a vacation.
