Three committee members from the National Union of Bank Employees Kuala Lumpur branch today lodged a complaint at the Trade Union Affairs Department in Shah Alam alleging that the branch secretariat had used their names to tamper with the minutes for a meeting last year.

The meeting on Sept 17 was to discuss plans for the annual dinner held last Dec 29 which turned controversial after the branch registered a loss of almost RM97,000.

The three, Abdul Zaman Abdullah, Nazri Samsudin and Rosida Abd Mutalib, claimed in a six-point memorandum that they were named in "Agenda 3  Annual Dinner and Dance" found in the minutes, with the intention to falsify the document.

Their memorandum was received by duty officer Sulkifli Silang on behalf of the departments Selangor, Federal Territory and Pahang director, Sabri Karmani.

The trio want Sabri to immediately investigate into, among others:

  • The RM97,000 losses incurred by the KL branch secretariat in organising the annual dinner using members' money;
  • The tampering and falsification of the minutes for the special branch committee meeting; and
  • The national exco's decision on Wednesday not to investigate the KL branch's alleged tampering and falsifying of the minutes.

    • In deciding not to probe the matter, the NUBE national exco had said that it accepted the explanation of the KL branch committee regarding the issue.

    RM97,000' hot soup

    "We decided to report the matter here immediately after the unfavourable decision taken by the Nube national exco as we are very unhappy and angry, said Abdul Zaman when met at the department.

    "The officer said the complaint will be forwarded to the director and he will try to resolve the matter as soon as possible since it involves abuse of funds and tampering of documents," he said.

    Asked on the next course of action, Nazri said the committee members, although unhappy, will have to follow procedures.

    On news reports that KL Nube branch members are planning to lodge police reports, he said what the members decided to do on their own was beyond the control of the committee.

    The NUBE KL branch landed itself in the soup when the lavish dinner organised at a cost of more than RM120,000 ended up with losses amounting to about RM97,000 as the committee only managed to collect about RM22,000 in ticket sales.

    Although 1,200 tickets were printed, only about 400 members had purchased them.
