Keadilan Sabah during its state convention today proposed that a second deputy prime ministers post be created to look after the interests of Sabah and Sarawak.

Delegates attending the convention unanimously passed a resolution to that affect, said a Bernama report.

Party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail told a press conference in Kota Kinabalu later the proposal was appropriate taking into consideration the unique political scenario and vastness of the two states.

"Under such circumstances, I think it is practical to have another deputy prime minister for the people of Sabah and Sarawak," she was quoted as saying.

Wan Azizah added she will raise the matter during the next Barisan Alternatif presidential council meeting and if possible, include it in the BA manifesto for the coming general elections.

State elections

On another matter, Wan Azizah said the party was preparing for the next state elections and is in the process of recruiting more members.

At the moment we have 10 registered Keadilan divisions in Sabah, she said.

Asked to comment on Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) recent re-entry into the Barisan Nasional fold, Wan Azizah replied this has given Keadilan the opportunity to be the main opposition party in the state.

According to her, Keadilan is prepared to form an electoral pact with other opposition parties in the Sabah.

She also claimed that several PBS and Umno members have indicated their desire to join Keadilan.

"Lately, we received a good response from the people here and we hope to mount a strong challenge against BN in the next election," she said.
