A faction in PPP is keeping pressure on party president M Kayveas to prove that the party’s financial records are kept up to date with the Registrar of Societies (ROS).

Yesterday, Kayveas reportedly said that the party had filed its financial records, as required under the Societies Act 1966, to the ROS up to 2007.

na shanmuganathan ppp 160509 “This is a blatant lie… I went to ROS headquarters in Putrajaya and also the Federal Territory (ROS) branch to check, only to be informed by the ROS authorities that the latest update was in 2002,” said spokesperson NA Shanmuganathan.

Speaking at a press conference in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, Shanmuganathan reiterated allegations that the party was facing deregistration because the documents were not filed.

This allegation is the heart of PPP’s purge of seven-members, including Shanmuganathan and his boss T Murugiah, from the party today.

Kayveas has been involved in an open tiff with Murugiah, while the latter has been using proxies to attack the party president’s credibility.

The mentor-versus-protégé clash, according to Kayveas’ supporters, was due to Murugiah’s overambitious attempt break the former’s 14-year grip as president.

Murugiah’s supporters, however, are claiming that Kayveas was putting the brakes on Murugiah’s career, boosted by his appointment as a deputy minister last June, out of jealousy.

'Even Kayveas cannot contest for posts'

kayveas ppp pc 120308 straight Kayveas, however, has repeatedly stressed that Murugiah cannot contest in the party polls because his Silibin branch had been dissolved in 2006 thus disqualifying him as a delegate to the national conference.

In a yet another twist to the feud, Shanmuganathan today alleged that even Kayveas cannot contest for posts by virtue of the Jalan Mahajalela PPP Branch, which the latter heads, being defunct since 2006.

During the press conference, Shanmuganathan distributed copies of the ROS notice to the press, stating that the branch failed to submit certain documents to the ROS within a stipulated time frame and was dissolved on March 14, 2006.

Another ROS notice shown to the press stated that the Le Cha Teau PPP branch, headed by Kayveas’ wife Blanche O’Leary, was temporarily suspended for a similar offence on Sept 10, 2008.

“Therefore, Kayveas and his wife are both not eligible to contest for any post in the forthcoming PPP election, if at all there is one,” said Shanmuganathan.
